Pregnancy X-rays are an excellent way to confirm numbers of puppies in a litter before they are born.
We recommend this for anyone planning on natural whelping (natural birth) to assist you in keeping track during the labour process.
X-rays can be performed from 45 days gestation onwards, and we usually perform them in the last week of pregnancy. This allows adequate time for the foetuses' bones to develop and calcify enough so that they appear on x-ray images.
One single x-ray is usually taken with the mu awake and gently lying on her side. A single x-ray is of next-to-no health risk to the pregnant mum or pups and is safe to perform.
